What are the hardware requirements for mediate?
mediate is a very graphics intensive application and so the key requirement for good performance is a fairly recent (less than 2 years old) graphics card with full DirectX 9 compatibility. For best results and use with high definition video formats we recommend a mid-range graphics card such as an NVIDIA GeForce 6200 or ATI Radeon X550.
Can I use mediate without a remote control?
mediate is designed from the ground up to be used with a remote control from a comfortable viewing distance, however we recognise that this may not be possible for someone interested in evaluating mediate before committing to a purchase.
mediate can also be controlled very easily using simple keyboard commands (for the most part just cursor keys and enter), and these are detailed in the online help screens available within mediate. We recommend however that mediate be used with our bundled remote control for the best user experience.
We are also actively working towards enabling mediate for use with other remote controls. If you have a remote control that you would like to use with mediate, please contact our support team. In most cases, we can provide a keyboard mapping that will allow key commands from other remotes to work with mediate.
Isn't mediate quite a lot like Windows MCE?
mediate offers much of the functionality of Windows Media Center Edition with one important difference - you don't need to buy a new PC to enjoy the experience of mediate. Our design goals for mediate were also quite different - we want you to enjoy your media within a few moments of installing mediate, and to make life as easy as possible for our users.
mediate eases you into the digital lifestyle without requiring complex setup and configuration. If you store your media files in the "My Music", "My Videos" and "My Pictures" folders within Windows then you won't need to configure mediate at all!
We strongly believe in the "less is more" approach and aim to deliver the easiest of digital media experiences.
What media formats are supported by mediate?
mediate uses DirectShow technology for both audio and video playback and so is able to support an extremely wide variety of popular audio, video and image file formats. mediate can also be extended to work with any additional video or audio formats by installing suitable codecs, many of which are freely available.
