Remote control setup

mediate has been designed principally for use with a remote control for a "10 feet" user experience. We recommend use of the Streamzap remote control, available from our shop, but we are working on support for other remote controls too.

Streamzap remote control

The Streamzap remote control is supplied with a software CD containing necessary drivers and the Streamzap remote control tray application. Insert the Streamzap CD and follow the onscreen instructions to install the Streamzap software - do not insert the USB IR receiver until prompted to do so during the installation. You should verify that the remote is working with the Streamzap intro slideshow before testing it within mediate.

Once you have the Streamzap remote control working with the supplied intro slideshow, you may enable the Streamzap remote in the mediate helper tray application by right clicking on the tray icon. If the mediate helper is not currently running (note that some tray icons may be hidden) then run it from the @home media folder in your Start menu.

Pressing any button on the Streamzap remote should now animate the mediate helper tray icon (you will see a red light flashing). If the icon does not animate, right click and select the enable or reset menu options, or quit and restart the mediate helper. Note that the Streamzap remote tray application must also be running (and displaying a red symbol) for the mediate helper to work.

The power button on the Streamzap remote may be used to launch or quit mediate, whilst the coloured buttons provide quick access to music, video, pictures and main menus. The mute and volume buttons will control media playback volume within mediate. Record is used to jump to a fullscreen view for the current media, and channel up/down buttons may be used to scroll. All other buttons should be self explanatory.

Note: the mediate helper uses a custom interface to the Streamzap remote to provide better integration with mediate. If you would like to use the Streamzap remote with other media software, you will first need to disable or close the mediate helper tray application.
